5th Annual Fall Colors Ride October 2010

We were staged and ready to roll from Mickey D's Saturday morning. Eight bikes made up the pack, including Anita riding her own scoot on this run. I say she did a fine job negotiating those mountain roads and over Monitor Pass. Riders included Rich & Anita (riding one-up), Doug & Marie, Ronnie & Bonnie, Al & Jackie, Jeff & Cathy, Alex & Jennifer, and Ron & Patty.  Unfortunately, we missed Ed & Suzanne being with us due to a health issue, but we did toast the Aye Chihuahua in their honor.

This year was by far the most spectacular year yet for the fall colors. We've never experienced such vibrant, vivid colors such as we had this year.

With a defused light from the mostly cloudy skies, the trees seemed to light up like Christmas trees, and that was viewing them through cheap sun glasses

I believe we may have hit the change of colors at their peak this year!

We arrived at the Topaz Lodge and got checked in to our rooms. Then we headed about a 1/2 mile north on 395 to the Iron Horse Bar and Restaurant. We rode a 150 miles today in just five hours.

The food here is exceptional. The owners accommodated us by putting tables together so we could enjoy dinner as a group. We got our bellies full and head back to the casino

The pictures are courtesy of Anita, but this is where the pictures end, and that may not have been a bad thing. Leave it to say we had a great time at the bar where a one-man band with the typical sound effects used by most Nevada lounge lizards now days. However, this old timer and I mean he must have been near 70 years old was quite entertaining and we all ended up having just a great time! You know there was some fun when you have strangers coming up to you the next day during breakfast and saying how much fun they had with us the previous night. One couple told us they hoped we would be here next year when they come back 

After breakfast we rolled away Sunday morning about 10:30am or so, and headed down Hwy 88 eventually when it started raining about Pioneer. A few miles later we took the exit to Volcano, stopping at the Whiskey Flat Saloon to watch the first half of the Niner/Raider game. We had some lunch there and a couple of drinks. The rain let up some and we all rode up the mountain to our - well almost our new home about six miles out of town.

We spent a little time looking things over. Alex is going to be moving an interior door for us there and checked it out in advance. We locked the joint up and headed down Fiddletown Road towards the valley where is started raining again. It rained the rest of the way back. About an hour and a half worth, this was plenty for the day.

All in all, I think I can safely say for everyone attending it was a fabulous run with tons of fun. You all are a great group of riders. Patty and I truly feel very fortunate to have such wonderful friends as all of you!

Next up - Apple Hill Picnic Ride TBA
