Malakoff Diggins Ride Report, April 18, 2010

Three bikes departed the staging point almost on time again. We headed up I-80 picking up Redeye & Sam at the Rocklin Rds. exit, and then Les at the Sierra College exit. We did this on the fly.

Riders: Redeye, Les, Patty, Jackie, Al, Jeff, Cathy, Sam, Chole, Valdez

Making our first stop at the Bear River crossing near Colfax off Dog Bar Road

Riding up Dog Bar through Grass Valley, past Nevada City, our next stop was the Yuba River Crossing

This turned out the be the nicest day of the year so far. The river was flowing better than we've seen it in years due to the great winter we've had

There was a team of kayak's on the river heading to Bridgeport
We spent some time watching them launch

They would slide off a large rock into the river

Sam got an up close look

Another stop along Tyler-Foot Road, Chole had the attention

Les thought this was the Loaves and Fishes Run so didn't bring a lunch. We stopped at the Mother Truckers Market so Les could buy his lunch that he assumed someone else had brought for him. He did have chips.

Back on the road higher up the mountain

Passing some of the diggins

73 degrees in the mountains in April. The weather gods were with us

And we were in some snow!

Image only one U-turn in the dirt

It's not really a U-turn if you just back down the mountain some

We arrived at Blair Lake, where we would have lunch

Lunch Time

Jeff, Al, Les & Valdez solving world problems

Some know how to pack a picnic

Heading out after lunch

Arriving in North Bloomfield

We wandered around the old town

Then it was a short ride to the cemetery. Very interesting....

Heading home down Marysville Road, crossing Bullard's Bar Dam
Bullard's Marina.

With the camera put away we made the last leg. Redeye & Sam had a family BBQ to get to. Jeff and Cathy had some chores to finish up. They rode together through Marysville taking Hwy 65 home.

Our other three bikes took 70 to the Garden Hwy where we stopped at Swabbies for Fish Tacos and beers. There was a ton of bikers there with a live band. It was still crowded when we arrived at 6:00pm.

We had a beautiful day with some great roads putting on something over 200 miles today.

Thanks to all that made this another great ride! See ya down the road
